The Girl Who Has EVERYTHING

Look at this stuff, isn't it neat?
Wouldn't you think my collection's complete?
Wouldn't you think I'm the girl
The girl who has everything?

Jim Shore collector and Disney fan Katie Mackintosh, has the largest collection that we have ever seen.

Kat not only has a room that is dedicated to her Disney collection, but she has dedicated EVERY room. Kat’s entire home is steeped in Disney - from the bed she sleeps on, to the ornaments that decorate her living spaces, to her Christmas collection which comes out every holiday season.

.

 .

Kat cites her favorite Disney characters as Pluto, Belle, Stitch, Tinkerbell and Cheshire Cat, and her favorite Disney films as Beauty and the Beast and The Nightmare Before Christmas.

.

“They are two completely different films, but I would drive my parents mad constantly quoting the films and singing along.”

.

For Kat, Disney is more than just a casual interest. It’s a hobby, it’s a passion, it’s a life.

Disney Traditions

.

By now you may have gleamed, that Kat is no ordinary collector. While many collectors have beautiful sets of 10, 20, 30 Jim Shore Figurines, Kat has HUNDREDS. She has decked her entire house out in Jim Shore Disney Traditions figurines.

Disney Traditions is a line of breath-taking, hand-painted pieces launched in 2006 by award winning artist Jim Shore. The pieces are carefully chosen representations of classic Disney film characters that are created with Shore’s American folk-art inspired style, making them unique and recognisable – whether they be figurines, water balls or hanging ornaments.

.

“My parents bought me my first Jim shore piece in 2007 but my passion for it didn't take off until I moved in with my boyfriend in 2012. I had so much space to fill - a whole house and thought, ‘this is great!’ I never imagined it would grow this much. I currently have 206 pieces.”

Kat's Disney Collection

Kat’s collection is not just limited to Jim Shore pieces. In addition to her large collection of Disney Traditions, she also collects the following Disney items:

  • Steelbooks
  • Pop Vinyls
  • Tsum Tsums
  • Pins
  • Romero Britto
  • Couture Deforce

These items reside in a Disney-themed collection room that she has created in her home, but have also spilled out into every room of the house.

Kat’s bedroom provides another space for her collection to reside. The main focus of the room - the bed - is dressed in Finding Dory bed linen, which is then completed with the addition of plush toys from Disney films such as Inside Out. Her dresser is also home to a large collection of Jim Shore Tinkerbell ornaments.

An exquisite piece of Thomas Kinkade feature artwork hangs above her bed. The piece is called ‘Fly to Neverland’ and was gifted to Kat for her 30th birthday. The rest of the room is adorned with small Disney touches – plush toys, Jim Shore figurines and more.

How It All Began

For Kat, the obsession with Disney began as a child.

.

“I’ve always been surrounded by Disney growing up as my Mum loves it. The first memory I have is when I was about five or six years old, and our local theatre would have a movie morning for kids. The movie was 101 Dalmatians and Cruella scared me. My dad slept through the whole film. This was the start of many Disney cinema trips.

.

Kat’s collection began about ten years ago, when she was first introduced to award-winning artist Jim Shore’s Disney work, and instantly fell in love. Jim Shore’s unique take on iconic Disney characters has made him extremely successful, and made him a household name among Disney fans and collectors. Kat still recalls the moment when her collection officially began:

.

“It was back in 2007, My parents had just been away on holiday and had found a lovely little gift shop in Chester where they picked me up some beautiful Disney ornaments - Pluto, Cheshire cat and Tinkerbell. At the time, we had no idea what a Disney Tradition was or heard of Jim Shore but I am so glad they did or my addiction may have never started.

Visiting Disney

For most Disney fans, the first item on their bucket list is to set foot inside one of the Disney Parks.

Kat has visited Disney Parks several times, including Disneyland Paris and Disney World in Orlando, Florida.

.

“My first trip was to Disneyland Paris, which was known then as Euro Disney, was with my parents when I was 14 years old. I have since been back six times. The first time I walked along Main Street and saw Sleeping Beauty's castle – it just took my breath away. My boyfriend made my dreams come true by taking me to Walt Disney World when I was 21 where we've been back to twice.”

 .

When Kat is not visiting a Disney Park, she gets her fix by attending theatre productions at London’s West End.

.

“I was surprised for my 30th birthday with tickets to the Lion King, then recently Aladdin!
